Coquitlam hit and run killer gets five months 0

By Michael Mui, 24 Hours Vancouver

A man arrested two years after his BMW struck and killed a Burnaby senior has been sentenced to five months jail, with a two-year driving prohibition to follow his release.

Coquitlam resident Vincenzo Moscato Peragine, 29, was sentenced in B.C. provincial court in Vancouver Wednesday. Burnaby resident Virginia Itubay was walking home from grocery shopping or church on Jan. 21, 2010, when she was struck and killed while crossing the street.

Itubay, 73, moved to Canada from the Philippines about three decades ago. She was described by her niece earlier this year as “one of the lights that made (the) family shine so brightly.”

The lengthy investigation came to a close after a tip led to the 1993 BMW coupe’s seizure, though any damage from the crash had been repaired by then.
