By Tyler Orton, 24 Hours Vancouver

The Canadian Coast Guard confirms two people were aboard a small plane that crashed on Pitt Lake, just north of Pitt Meadows.

Capt. Erik Niemi said there is no word on the condition of the two passengers aboard the Cessna 172 when it flipped over on the lake at about 4:30 p.m. Monday.

He added one passenger has been taken to hospital, while the second passenger will be taken to the emergency room once her or she has been removed from the plane.

Coast Guard spokesman Dan Bate said a hovercraft from the Sea Island station in Richmond was dispatched to the scene along with “other local assets.”
