Brothers perform roller coaster tattoo stunt at PNE 0

OMAR RAWJI, 24 HOURS

Don’t try this at home (if perchance you have a roller coaster in your yard and a tattoo gun lying around).

The Great Orbax, a stunt performer, attempted to tattoo a smiley face — complete with lolling tongue — on his brother’s bare leg while riding Playland’s bump-riddled roller coaster Tuesday.

He and the freshly tattooed Sweet Pepper Klopek are known as the Monsters of Schlock. The daredevil duo usually performs painful stunts in the name of entertainment. They hold five Guinness world records, including “most mousetraps set off on the human tongue in one minute,” and “farthest distance to pull a vehicle using fishhooks in the back.”

“We’ve done way more dangerous things, but this is by far the stupidest thing we’ve ever attempted,” said Orbax, minutes before the coaster set off.

The Canadian brothers have been performing together all over the world for 10 years. Now, five years into their run at Fright Night, they proposed the brilliant tattoo plan to the PNE.

“They jumped at the idea,” Orbex said, laughing. “I think after working with us for so long, they wanted to see us get hurt.”

Um, and his experience tattooing? “We both have tattoos,” Orbex hedged.

Thomas Lockhart, a local tattoo artist at Westcoast Tattoo, said the stunt posed no real danger to Klopek’s life, but was concerned about the stunt’s unsterile, turbulent conditions.

“I wouldn’t let someone tattoo me on a roller coaster.”

Lockhart added getting a tattoo such as Klopek’s smiley face removed using laser would cost “several hundred dollars.”

The roller coaster stunt was a first at Playland.

“We’ve had people get married on this coaster,” said Fright Nights spokeswoman Laura Ballance, who’s worked at Playland for more than 20 years. “We’ve had movie shoots, we’ve probably had close to 100 actors ride it, and it’s been featured in horror movies, but we’ve never done anything like this.”

The Monsters of Schlock perform three times a night for the duration of Fright nights.
