NHL LABOUR WOES
NHLers sport anti-Gary Bettman caps during lockout

The name-calling by locked-out NHLers has been taken to a new, but less verbal, level.
According to TVA Sports, Montreal Canadiens players practicing in that city have begun wearing baseball caps that have “Puck Gary” and “2012-13 NHL Lockout” printed on the front. The hats are not endorsed by the NHL Players’ Association, TVA says.
The Montreal Gazette reported Canadiens forward Erik Cole said the lockout hats “might be available to the public, all proceeds to charity.”
The childish statement is the latest salvo fired towards NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and the league’s owners.
Earlier Monday, Florida Panthers forward Kris Versteeg called Bettman and deputy commish Bill Daly “cancers” during an interview on a Toronto radio station. Versteeg added that the two “have been polluting this game for far too long” and should be replaced once the lockout is resolved.
And on the weekend, Detroit Red Wings defenceman Ian White called Bettman “an idiot” who has “done nothing but damage the game.”
WAR OF WORDS
A number of NHLers have hurled insults at the league and its owners the last few months. Here are a few of the most notable -- and offensive:
Bruins centre David Krejci to Czech publication iSport.cz …
“(Bettman) does what he wants. We want to play, we're the ones who are (negotiating). It is unfortunate that the NHL have such a guy. It's a shame for the entire hockey world. (He) treats us like animals … Bettman took during the last lockout $3.5 million, now it's at $8 million.”
Florida Panthers forward Kris Versteeg on TSN radio …
"I'm really frustrated. It's not good. You do try to look at the best-case scenarios moving forward once the CBA does get done and you've got to look for the cancers and you've got to cut out cancers. I think when you look at Bill Daly and Bettman, they've been polluting this game for far too long. I think in order to get the fans tastes back in their mouth I think you've got to look at (firing them), especially when the CBA is over."
Detroit Red Wings defenceman Ian White to Motown reporters …
“I gotta be honest: I personally think (Bettman’s) an idiot. Since he’s come in, I think he’s done nothing but damage the game.”
San Jose Sharks winger Martin Havlat to CSSNE.com …
“I think it helps that the fans get to hear what we already know. We're not humans in their eyes; we're just pieces of meat that get to eat some grass for awhile."
Boston Bruins forward Milan Lucic to CSSNE.com …
“You'd think people would treat you better than as just an animal.”
