TransLink proposes community shuttle changes

By Michael Mui, 24 Hours Vancouver

Public consultation on the proposed merging of community shuttle routes C1 and C2 in Burnaby are expected next month in Burnaby.

The C1 and C2 routes are among the “lowest performers” in the transit system. An average trip in 2011 saw only two to three passengers each along the “busiest segments of their routes.”

The proposal would merge the two. C1 currently runs west of Willingdon Avenue and north of Hastings Street, while C2 runs primarily east of Willingdon Avenue to the neighbourhood around Cambridge Street.

“There is some loss of service on Hastings Street between Willingdon Avenue and Gilmore Avenue. However, this section of Hastings is well covered and served by alternative transit routes including routes 129, 130 and 135,” wrote Lou Pelletier, director of planning and building in a recent report to Burnaby city council.

The public consultation is scheduled for Dec. 12 at the Gilmore Community School in Burnaby, between 5 to 7:30 p.m.
