Laptops seized in B.C. child porn busts 0

By Michael Mui, 24 Hours Vancouver

Three travellers arriving at B.C. international checkpoints have been arrested this month in child pornography investigations. Border officials said they seized three laptops.

Canada Border Services Agency is not identifying any of the accused. The first incident happened while officials examined a marine vessel in Surrey and found a laptop hidden behind bottled water in a storeroom.

A crew member was arrested and turned over to RCMP.

Three days later, on Dec. 5, a U.S. resident arrived at Surrey’s Pacific Highway border crossing via bus. His luggage was examined and a laptop was seized. CBSA said he’s been charged and is scheduled for a court appearance in January.

The same day, a traveller arriving by plane from Thailand was arrested and sent back after officers found “suspected child exploitation” images on his laptop. Several flash drives, a portable hard drive and two cellphones were also seized.
