A RCMP constable killed in a crash last month was driving above the speed limit without emergency equipment, an initial investigation has determined.

Const. Adrian Oliver, was driving an unmarked police car when he collided with a transport truck in an intersection around 5 a.m. on Nov. 13.

Police say video and GPS evidence indicate that Oliver was trying to locate a stolen pick-up truck and started travelling above the posted speed limit without emergency equipment activated. RCMP did not release the speed at which Oliver was driving, or any other details of the crash.

The driver of the truck wasn't injured in the crash, but has been provided updates by police, an RCMP release stated.

The RCMP Criminal Collision Investigation, with oversight from the Vancouver Police Department is continuing to investigate what happened before the collision.

Oliver, from Ottawa, was a second-generation RCMP officer.
