Fresh off an explosive interview with disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong, former daytime TV queen Oprah Winfrey is hitting Vancouver on Thursday and tickets for her Rogers Arena show are selling at a premium.
Although she’s spent recent years dwelling on her own low-rated cable channel launched in 2011, the price for a pair of floor seats at Winfrey’s show is going as high as $700 on Craigslist.
Vancouver Ticket owner Kingsley Bailey said he mostly deals with high-demand events such as Canucks games and concerts. The target demographic looking to get into Rogers Arena this week represents a big shift for the ticket broker.
“For the most part, it’s definitely female generated,” he said.
“And if we know a little about our girlfriends and our wives, they do not like to procrastinate.”
Bailey said this means premium tickets sold out long ago and husbands are now scrambling to upgrade their wives’ seats. This also benefited those looking for last-minute deals, since people are dumping their old tickets and creating more supply for the lower-end seats.
“There will be deals to be had outside of the stadium,” he said, adding tickets close to the stage are going for about $200.
