Mounties are planning to charge a Surrey man with assault and possibly kidnap or unlawful confinement after a teenaged girl was lured to her car and attacked on Saturday.
The 25-year-old man, who hasn’t been named, was arrested by tactical officers in Vancouver late Tuesday. RCMP said tips poured in after an image of the suspect was released to the public.
“That allowed us to quickly identify and then locate the suspect,” Insp. David Fleugel said in a statement. “I’d like to acknowledge and thank the public for the valuable information they provided police.”
Police also received calls from other women who said the man approached them.
In Saturday’s attack, the 17-year-old victim was outside a Maple Ridge pub when a man approached her and asked for help.
A gun was pulled and she was forced to drive her car to a secluded location, where she was beaten.
Police haven’t released a motive and said nothing was taken, apart from her car, which was later recovered.
The girl has since been released from hospital.
