Vancouver man charged with animal cruelty 0

24 hours

The discovery of 36 videos of five cats and a mouse being tortured and killed netted a Vancouver man two new animal cruelty charges and left local SPCA investigators who watched them shaken by the brutality.

Jordan Lucas is in custody awaiting trial after being charged with animal cruelty in July 2012 in connection with another video that was discovered by a woman who had purchased a used cell phone. Since then, the SPCA received a new set of tapes from a member of the public that were analyzed by investigators.

SPCA spokeswoman Lorie Chortyk said the videos, alleged to have taken place during a two-month period in early 2012, were horrific.

“It was just probably the most disturbing, sickening torture we have seen,” Chortyk said. “It was just beyond description.”

Lucas was arrested last August for breach of probation on unrelated charges. He is due in court on Feb. 4. If convicted, Lucas faces up to five years in jail, a fine of up to $10,000 and a possible lifetime ban from owning animals.
