Mike Tomlin disses ‘flavour of the month’ read-option 0
Most NFL coaches have talked about the challenge this off-season of figuring out how to properly defend the read-option.
You know, the college-style give-or-keep plays run most often by San Francisco’s Colin Kaepernick, Washington’s Robert Griffin III and Seattle’s Russell Wilson.
Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was asked about it Tuesday morning at the AFC coaches media session at the NFL annual meeting.
He ain’t scared.
“We look forward to having an opportunity to defend it, to be honest with you,” Tomlin said, his Steelers bravado in fine form.
“We always believe that we’re on the cutting edge defensively, and look forward to pitting our skills against others, physically and schematically. I embrace that.
“I understand that that’s the flavour of the month. We look forward to eliminating it.”
Did RG3 and the Redskins use much read-option, Tomlin was asked, in their loss at Pittsburgh last season?
