Man dead after drowning in Fraser River 0

Luke Brocki, 24 hours

A 36-year-old Vancouver man is dead after falling overboard from a crabbing boat on the Fraser River.

The Canadian Coast Guard responded to a distress call near Iona Beach Regional Park on the north arm of the river at 8:40 p.m. Saturday night.

The Sea Island base in Richmond dispatched a hovercraft, which arrived on scene within 22 minutes.

Paramedics performed CPR on the man, but he was pronounced dead at the base and did not make it to hospital.

Vancouver Police said the man got tangled in some equipment and fell overboard.
