A memorial to the women who went missing in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside
The Vancouver Park Board has approved a proposal for a totem pole in Crab Park to memorialize the women who went missing during the years serial killer Robert Pickton prowled the Downtown Eastside.
The project still must come back for formal approval by the park board in the fall, but it would be built from a cedar log donated by the chief of the Klahoose First Nation.
“There has been no design, but artists have come forward,” park board chairwoman Sarah Blythe said.
“It’s important to honour the families with, in my opinion, whatever they need to heal.”
