More than 100 flood-damaged Calgary buildings may be demolished 0
More than 100 flood-damaged buildings could face demolition, the head of Calgary's Emergency Management Agency said Saturday.
The list being reevaluated include homes that shifted on their foundations or were hit with walls of water up to four metres high that blew right through them, Bruce Burrell said.
"They are the ones we are contemplating demolition of," he said. "There probably will be more throughout the day, that doesn't mean we are going to demolish 100 structures but they are the ones that need to be assessed for demolition."
The assessment process will take between five and seven days, he said.
Meanwhile, all mandatory evacuation orders have been lifted and access to power has been restored, though not everyone may have electricity right away, said Burrell.
