The Union Gospel Mission has reeled in a healthy bounty of fish courtesy of the Pacific Salmon Foundation and Canfisco, a subsidiary of The Jim Pattison Group.
More than 650 pounds of fresh, filleted salmon has been donated to the charity to feed residents of Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, according to the Pacific Salmon Foundation.
Elayne Sun, a representative of the non-profit, said the pink salmon donation was part of an effort to help the public get a taste for the plentiful, local species.
“Canfisco gave us a huge donation of fish to make sure everyone was fed,” she said. “Then we gave that to the mission.”
