The Green Party of Canada is claiming Prime Minister Stephen Harper has already committed public money to Enbridge’s tanker plans even though the Northern Gateway pipeline is still awaiting approval.
A press release, titled “Leaked Evidence Shows Harper Committed Public Funding to Assist Enbridge Tanker Plans,” said Green Party Leader Elizabeth May will hold a press conference in Victoria Wednesday to divulge documents backing up the claim.
May will be joined by B.C. Green Party MLA Andrew Weaver and interim party leader Adam Olsen.
A review of the controversial proposal has not been completed by the Joint Review Panel. The Greens claim Harper’s assertion he will not support it until the review is completed is false.
However, the Greens would not release more information about what the documents contain.
A spokesman for the Prime Minister’ Office was unaware of the release Tuesday, and said the PMO would “wait and see” what the Green Party releases before commenting.
