Supercar event revs up luxury engines 0
To be perfectly honest, status-symbol cars aren’t really my bag. But hey, they sure are a big deal for a lot of people in this city. For proof, you needn’t look any further than the official launch for Luxury Supercar Weekend, a two-day showing of outrageously posh rides. Held at the ultra-chic Inform Interiors in Gastown, this kick-off party was packed with movers and shakers in designer clothes. So yep, it was a great place for people watching. But the highlight of my night had to be playing “name that ‘80s tune” with pianist Bryant Olender — now those were some good times!
Judging by all the dedicated volunteers on hand at the Fringe Festival opening night party, there’s a lot of indie theatre lovers in Vancouver. As soon as guests entered the Performance Works venue on Granville Island, they were with greeted super-friendly ushers and happy-go-lucky raffle ticket vendors. It’s not often you see so many people from so many different walks of life pitching in to help support the arts — and with such unbridled enthusiasm! In fact, the entire evening served as a nice little reminder that we’re still, in fact, a city with soul. If you want in on the action, the 11-day celebration runs until Sept. 15, so there’s still plenty of plays to catch. For more details, visit vancouverfringe.com.
REINSPiRE was a relatively intimate gathering with about 60 guests in attendance. Yet, the Positive Living B.C. special event at Creekside Community Recreation Centre managed to raise more than $26,000 to help people living with HIV lead healthier lives. After the spirited live auction, people mingled around the room, which was decorated with memorial quilts. The centrepiece was the One World – One Hope quilt, which was created by the late Doreen Rennschmid and based on the work of local artist Joe Average. A truly beautiful work of art!
