Paperclip trader sets sights on reality TV 0
Kyle MacDonald of One Red Paperclip fame says he's looking for something interesting and bizarre for a reality show he's been offered and is open for suggestions. (FROM FACEBOOK)
The creator of the One Red Paperclip scheme says he’s signed on to do a reality show. At this point, however, no paperclips are needed to hold the script together because it doesn’t exist, in fact neither does the show’s premise.
Kyle MacDonald, Belcarra’s strangest son, is asking people to help him come up with an idea for a pilot French-language show titled L'experience Kyle MacDonald.
The show will be filmed in late October in Montreal.
“I’m just asking if anyone has ideas for something they’d like to see on TV — let’s go do it,” the blogger turned author told 24 hours via phone from Nelson, B.C. “We’ll get paid and have fun and hopefully it’ll work out.”
MacDonald said he’s been offered shows over the past few years since coming to attention for starting with a single red paperclip and obtaining a house through a series of trades.
“They always make it some really boring, dumbed-down version of trading up,” he said. “I don’t want to do that.”
Instead he’s aiming to create a show, in the truest sense of the word, where there would be no scripts or interference from producers.
Calling standard reality TV fair a “a waste of everyone’s time,” he said his hope is to do something that makes no sense, sparking conversation and inspiring people to do something other than watch reality T.V.
“I’m going out purposely to create something interesting that will be documented for television,” he said. “I’d like to do something real and film it, if that’s possible.”
Thus far MacDonald said he doesn’t know how much money he’s been budgeted or what the concept of the show is and he hasn’t received too many interesting ideas, but is open to suggestions.
The concept he’s like best at this point is playing with people’s perception of value on items.
