Sustainable styles shine through at Eco Fashion Week 0
She did it again! Eco Fashion Week founder Myriam Laroche (along with her dedicated crew) pulled off yet another green glam slam. The five-day festival’s signature event kicked off with a VIP reception jam-packed with bloggers, designers and models. After that, partygoers headed to the Robson Square runway for the highly anticipated Thrift Chic Challenge. This staple of the biannual show is where three Vancouver stylists are charged with putting together entire collections using only previously loved clothing from Value Village. The sustainable style contenders this time round were Kenneth Wyse, Dandilion Wind Opaine and Claire Bouvier. And let me tell you, these eco fashionistas didn’t disappoint. All three did a bang-up job of curating wildly creative, truly inspiring ensembles. Hat’s off to them and everyone else involved for putting on what was arguably the fashion event of the season!
Sweet tooth soiree
Chocoholics didn’t waste any time getting to the sold-out Chocolate Challenge fundraising event at the Gourmet Warehouse. As soon as doors opened, ticket holders started filing into the east Van one-stop shop for foodies (as any chocoholic will attest, when there’s award-winning chocolate desserts to be had, arriving fashionably late is not an option). But people weren’t just there to get their cocoa fix – they were also there to help raise money for the Strathcona Back-Pack Food Program. For more info, visit sccbackpack.blogspot.ca.
Better with age
Normally, women of a certain vintage aren’t welcome on the catwalk. So it was refreshing to see models of all ages sashay down the Waterfall Building runway at the Timelessly Beautiful — Beauty, Fashion and Art Against Ageism event. The intimate gathering, which included live art and three fashion shows, is part of an ongoing grassroots series in support of Beauty Night Society – the non-profit charity organization that help women in poverty build self-esteem through several wellness programs.
