The killer of a Delta, B.C., teenager was sentenced Friday as an adult — to life in prison with no parole for seven years, News 1130 reports.
The man, now 21, previously pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for fatally bludgeoning Laura Szendrei, 15, three years ago in an attempt to restrain and have sex with her in a North Delta park.
He was 17 at the time.
Szendrei, an avid soccer player who was walking through Mackie Park to meet friends when she was badly beaten, died in hospital Sept. 25, 2010. Police arrested the suspect in February 2011.
A publication ban prevents the release of the killer's name.
The Crown had sought an adult sentence of 25 years behind bars. A youth sentence carried a prison term of up to seven years.
