ON THE TOWN
Toast to the Coast event supports Vancouver Aquarium’s conservation programs 0
It’s not every day I get to wine, dine and hang out with the sea otters. That’s why Toast to the Coast is one of my favourite events of the year. This is when some of the finest restaurants and wineries in B.C. come together in support of the Vancouver Aquarium's conservation, research and education programs. Guests get to sample Ocean Wise delicacies and vino as they wind their way around the beautiful maze of fish tanks.
And while every creature that inhabits the Aquarium is magnificent, it’s the rescued “awwwters” that get me every time. They’re just so freakin’ cute, I can barely stand it. But not everyone at this grain-and-grape gala got a glimpse of these beloved marine mammals. Due to chilly weather, most of the partygoers stayed indoors, but those in know — as well as those with a thirst for something stronger — ventured out to the VIP vodka bar, which just happened to be right next to my furry-faced, glossy-nosed, back-floating, endlessly grooming pal Elfin. Pure joy!

Gentlemen, start your ’staches! Movember is approaching fast, which means it’s almost time to grow a mustache to help raise awareness for prostate cancer and other men’s health issues. To launch the month-long charity event, the Vancouver chapter of Movember Canada hosted a party at Gallery Gachet. If you haven’t been there, it’s a cool little Gastown venue — so perfect for a hip, ever-growing grassroots initiative like Movember. The place was packed, the wine was flowing and the whiskers were sprouting. To find out how you can be (or support), a “mo bro,” visit ca.movember.com.
It slices. It dices. It happens every year, rain or shine. I’m talking about the Vancouver Home + Design Show at BC Place. As with past years, the four-day trade show kicked off with an opening night party in the Western Living lounge. Did we party until the break of dawn? No, but we did enjoy some free wine and a preview of all the many, many, many demo booths.
