Patrick Grydziuszko sees major changes in the future of Canadian health care, and he wants to be part of it.
The aspiring health administrator is already getting a head start by improving University of B.C. residents' health and well-being, and using his master’s thesis to help hospitals co-ordinate their initiatives.
“To be able to actually be hands-on, and do some kind of change in the health-care system, is an amazing opportunity for someone just graduating this year,” he said. “It impacts many aspects of the health-care system.
“Nothing is more exciting for me than to be part of change occurring ... I'd love to be a part of that.”
Throughout his studies, Grydziuszko has lived in student residence and become a leader not only supervising resident advisors, but co-ordinating a student first aid outreach program that he said is “saving lives” on campus.
Looking after 200 students in residence is “a lot of responsibility,” he admits, and with campus safety increasingly under scrutiny, Grydziuszko sees leaders' role as doing “everything in our power” to ensure students' well-being, health and security.
“Every time something bad happens, we get stronger by coming together,” he said. “For us, to be able to use this opportunity to come closer together as a whole community, is like looking at a light in the darkness. That's happening right now.”
