Pretty people party with ‘passports’ 0
Even though I’m not sure what the national average is these days, I’m pretty sure Vancouver still holds the title of having more beautiful women per capita than any other Canadian city. Any doubters out there obviously weren’t at the Loden Hotel’s five-year anniversary party last week. Seriously, you couldn’t swing a dead cat without hitting a stone-cold fox. But it’s hardly any wonder the PYT set was out in full force. The award-winning hotel has earned a bit of a rep for rolling out the red carpet with lavish, theatrical and generously catered celebrations. In other words, these events are not to be missed.
This year was no exception.
As per usual, guests were greeted with “party passports,” which gave them access to every elaborately themed room on the top two floors. In addition to the visual splendor of glam-slam decor and performance artistry at its finest, partygoers were treated to gourmet eats and endless champagne. Bonus: All this decadence was for a good cause. Proceeds from this fabulous fete went to the Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation.

There was no shortage of team spirit at B.C. Hospitality Foundation’s inaugural Skills and Spills fundraising event. Dubbed “Vancouver’s first-ever industry games,” food and beverage servers from dozens of local restaurants gathered at the Hellenic Centre for an afternoon of fun-filled competitions, including the “Hospitality Grind” obstacle course. Proceeds from the benefit, which was hosted by the mighty Prevail, go toward BCHF’s ongoing mission to provide financial support to hospitality workers in financial crises due to health issues. The Museum of Anthropology recently hosted an opening night party for its latest exhibit, aptly titled The Marvellous Real: Art from Mexico, 1926-2011. The place was packed, almost too packed. But the art was spectacular. I highly recommend checking out this exhibition, which features artists such as Frida Kahlo and runs until March 30, 2014. Trust me — even if the highbrow art connoisseur scene isn’t your bag, you will appreciate these amazing works.
