Police fine truck driver who crashed into Delta overpass 0
Mounties say the Lower Mainland transport driver who crashed into an overpass in Delta — snarling highway traffic for nearly half a day — wasn’t allowed to carry his tall load and hadn't maintained his logbook properly.
RCMP Cpl. Robert McDonald said Wednesday the Highway 99 accident stopped traffic from 2 p.m. Tuesday until about 11:30 p.m. He said the driver, whose name has not been released, had passed through the Ladner Trunk Road overpass once earlier that day with a similar load without collision, and thought the second load he brought through would fit.
“He was in violation of the permit, (the load) was higher than the permit,” McDonald said, adding the fines totaled $253.
“There was a couple of people that received minor injuries when concrete fell from the overpass.”
The truck did have a pilot car following behind, McDonald said, and that car was also damaged in the crash.
He added the truck driver was allowed to proceed to his Surrey destination after the investigation. Ladner Trunk Road is expected to be operating on limited lanes until further notice.
