B.C. natural gas reserves double previous estimates: report

By David P. Ball, 24 hours Vancouver

B.C. may be home to one of the globe’s largest natural gas reserves, according to a new report.

The government report suggests the Montney Formation in northeast B.C. and Alberta may hold more than 2,933 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, double previous estimates.

“The Montney area will support economic activity in our province for a very long time as a supply hub for liquefied natural gas development,” Rich Coleman, minister of natural gas development, said in a statement.
