The Pacific National Exhibition has put out a call for food vendors offering more than your standard midway fare.

The annual fair has 70 positions open for “unique” food vendors who want to participate in the two-week event that starts in mid-August.

PNE spokeswoman Laura Ballance said the fair prides itself on introducing people to new foods, whether ethnic or just plain creative.

“Over the years, the PNE’s always had food that is a little bit different than the normal standard fair food,” she said. “The focus for a lot of people continues to be unusual and different… everything from the deep-fried Oreos and mini doughnuts right through to healthy options."

Ballance said because people usually spend up to nine hours during a day at the fair healthy food is particularly in demand.

She adds, however, just being different isn’t the only requirement; it’s also important people want to actually eat the food on offer.
