Things haven't gone Alex Burrows' way this season. And it got a little worse Tuesday.

The Vancouver Canucks forward is sidelined with a fractured jaw, an injury he suffered during Sunday's game against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Burrows was hit in the face by the puck on a clearing attempt from teammate Chris Tanev — forcing him to leave the game momentarily to get medical attention before returning.

Afterwards, he talked to the media about the incident.

"As soon I touched my face, it was filled with a lot of blood," he said. "I didn't really know what was happening. My mouth was filling up with blood too. It's a little scary … but I guess it wasn't that bad."

However, he was wrong.

Burrows underwent surgery Monday and is expected to be out of the lineup for about four weeks, according to coach John Tortorella

"He's out for a while," Tortorella said. "It's a big blow for us."

With his latest injury, the gritty winger will be forced to miss even more games this season. He suffered a bruised foot earlier this year, causing him to sit for 12 games. And since his return, he has yet to find much offensive success.

The 32-year-old has not found the back of the net through 17 games this season and has just three assists. He is also a minus-7, which is second worst on the team, while his 49 shots are ranked 10th on the Canucks.
