A house fire forced some residents to jump from the burning building to safety in Vancouver early Monday morning.

According to Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services, a call was received around 4:15 a.m. about a house fire at a home in the 600 block of Broadway near Fraser Street. Media were reporting that three residents in the house climbed out of a window on the top floor of the two-storey structure and jumped onto the roof of the building next door, but deputy fire chief Steve Laleune said only two people jumped. Laleune said a third person in the house managed to escape.

All three of the home’s residents were taken to hospital — two for observation and one suffering from smoke inhalation — while a firefighter suffered a dislocated shoulder.
