North Vancouver RCMP are investigating a bomb threat targeting an area mosque — the second time the mosque has received such a threat since 2010.
According to Cpl. Richard De Jong, on Monday at approximately 6 p.m. the North Vancouver RCMP detachment received a call from a man who said a bomb was set to go off at a mosque located in the 300 block of Lynn Avenue. Police wouldn’t name the mosque, but the Alghadir Masjid mosque is listed at 351 Lynn Ave.
Police evacuated the building, which had about 15 people in the hall, and secured the area, De Jong said, and it was searched by officers and a police dog trained to find explosives. No bomb was located.
De Jong confirmed police are investigating possible links between this bomb threat and a similar threat the Al Ghadir Masjid mosque received in 2010. Calls by 24 hours to the mosque went unreturned.
Police are speaking to mosque officials in an attempt to identify the caller and any motive for the threat, De Jong said. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the North Vancouver RCMP at 604-985-1311.
