A 23-year-old man arrested after a 19-year-old woman plunged to her death from the 26th floor of a Surrey highrise on New Year’s Day has been released, according to IHIT.

Sgt. Adam MacIntosh of IHIT said the man has been released and nobody has been charged yet in the case, but police are still investigating what happened.

"It is still being treated as suspicious," MacIntosh said Thursday.

Surrey RCMP received a call at about 1 a.m. about a possible domestic disturbance at an apartment building in the 13000 block of 100 Avenue in Surrey’s Whalley neighbourhood. When officers arrived, they “witnessed something fall,” according to MacIntosh.

Surrey recorded 25 homicides in 2013, the most in the city’s history.
