Surrey: Police shooting victim identified 0

The BC Coroners Service has identified Gaetan Plante as the man shot by police in Surrey last Friday.

The 61-year-old was shot after brandishing a knife during an encounter with the RCMP in the Whalley area of north Surrey around 10 p.m. He was later pronounced dead at Royal Columbian hospital in New Westminster.

According to the coroners service it is investigating and the death has also been transferred to the Independent Investigations Office, which probes police-related deaths.

Plante was a Surrey resident.
