A taste of B.C.’s best 0
Celebrating wine, beer and spirits in style, the 21st annual Taste BC saw several hundred aficionados gather at the Pan Pacific Hotel for an evening of feasting and tasting. Organized by Liberty Wine Merchants, the stage was perfectly set for this annual charitable fundraiser (launched in 1993). Hundreds of top-notch wines from around B.C. were sampled by thirsty revelers. Appetites were fed courtesy of local restaurants and vendors of specialty goods, offering up everything from chocolates to oysters harvested in B.C. Guests sipped their way around the room prior to loosening their wallets for the event’s silent auction. Row upon row of tables laden with decadent-looking prizes saw competition ensue as bidding wars all but took over. With proceeds for this sell-out event being donated to the BC Children’s Hospital Oak Tree Clinic, it was all for a great cause worth toasting to. For more info visit: tastebc.wordpress.com.
All in the family
It was a family atmosphere at last week’s premiere of A Brimful of Asha at the Arts Club Theatre Revue Stage. As part of the ongoing PuSh Festival, a packed theatre welcomed Toronto-based actor Ravi Jain and his mother Asha to the stage for an intimate and highly entertaining debate. We were howling with laughter as we took in a performance that can best be described as part conversation, part cultural eye-opener, as dueling mother and son attempted to retell a story that all but wreaked havoc on their immediate family. The last laugh
Laughter proved to be the best medicine at the kick-off of Vancouver TheatreSports’ 26th annual presentation of The Massacre. Guests enjoyed cocktails prior to heading into the theatre for the first of a series of hilarious improv performances. Teams of comedic pros from around the city and beyond vied for the esteemed win, with plenty of audience participation. The laughs are guaranteed to continue through until the start of next week’s ninth annual Grapes of Laugh (beginning Jan. 30). For more info visit: vtsl.com.
