Burnaby City Hall is being asked to renew its funding for bicycle programs such as Bike to Work Week, the city’s cycling map and community learn-to-ride courses.

A total of $9,180 is being requested from city coffers. Some of the money would go to printing 8,000 additional copies of the city’s bike infrastructure map to be distributed to community centres, libraries, city hall and tourism offices.

Another portion would go to weeks encouraging cycling to work and school. Both events promote cycling by getting people out of cars and onto pedal-power for their regular commute.

Last year in Burnaby, 37% more people participated than the year previous and involved 183 total workplaces, according to a city report.

Learn-to-ride campaigns are also being provided at schools and community centres, with one class specifically focused on new immigrants.
