City staff are monitoring an apparent increase in the number of salmon returning to fish-bearing streams in north Delta, according to a city report.
Watershed Creek and Cougar Creek are two areas known for salmon spawning. In 2013, 23 live salmon spawners were spotted in a count in the latter, resulting in hundreds of juvenile coho being produced.
“The information received from residents and observations recorded by staff indicate there was possibly a greater-than-typical number of returning salmon this year compared to previous years,” the report said.
Watershed, meanwhile, has been an annual release site of 25,000 young chum.
