Partygoers work up a sweat
Clearly, Sweat Co.’s Maureen Wilson has a loyal clientele. The Vancouver personal trainer recently celebrated her studio’s 30th anniversary with a Marie Antoinette-themed fundraiser, and the funky little downtown fitness centre was jam-packed with wig-clad partygoers, a gracious team of glamourous hosts, as well as some local personalities, including Miss B.C. 2013 Ava Vanderstarren.
Legendary music manager Bruce Allen was also in attendance. He seemed to be in good spirits — almost jovial as he happily posed for pics. Now I won’t go so far as to say I found his pleasant demeanor disappointing — it’s just that when I run into Allen at a function, I’m half-expecting him to serve up one of those infamous rants (might make a great personalized ringtone or outgoing message, no?). Alas, he never does. But the show must go on, as they say, so back to the party. The highly personable Wilson proved herself a host with the most on Saturday, making each and every guest feel welcome at her Let Them Eat Cake catered benefit. Ironically, the event didn’t serve any dessert — at least not while I was there). An added bonus was that funds raised from the evening will go to two worthy charities: Covenant House and Project Limelight. There was no shortage of movers and shakers at the Vancouver Art Gallery’s Art Auction 2014, a fundraising event for the gallery’s educational programs. The black tie event kicked off with an elegant wine reception. This portion of the evening gave some our city’s wealthiest art patrons a chance to rub elbows, show off their latest arm candy and set their sights on an outstanding work of art (or two) to bid on. Some of the generous artists who donated said pieces were also on hand, including iconic Vancouver photographer Fred Herzog. After the millionaire schmooze fest, VIPs were ushered into the auction room, which was our cue to exit. Too rich for this girl’s blood!
