Moda a worthy addition to Burnaby's ‘great street’

By Chris Campbell, 24 hours

Since the launch of SkyTrain in late 1985, most of the changes around the Metrotown station in Burnaby have taken shape just to the north of the Expo Line, in everything from a massive new library to an expanded Bonsor Recreation Centre.

In the past two years, however, that trend has started to change as the area to the south has begun to receive more attention. Beresford Street, which runs parallel to the SkyTrain line, has been transformed from a feeder road, where the main landmark was a storage facility, into what urban planners call a pedestrian-friendly “great street.” Beresford now boasts new landscaping, wider sidewalks decorated with paving stones, cafes and public art installations. More additions are planned in future.

Situated on the doorstep of Beresford’s grand art wall is Moda, a 32-storey tower from Polygon at 6039 McKay Ave. Just steps away are Metrotown station and the namesake mega mall itself.

Due for completion this year, Moda units come as one-bedroom-plus-den and two bedrooms with prices starting at $390,900. Each features floor-to-ceiling windows to allow for maximum light and to take advantage of the tremendous views.

Flooring is a mix of cut pile carpet in the bedrooms and wood-style laminate in all other areas. Residents can choose from three colour schemes, while the door handles are polished chrome.

Bathrooms and kitchens are designed with quartz countertops, with glass tile backsplashes. All showers and tubs have oversized rain-shower heads, while toilets are dual-flush models to reduce water consumption.

At street level, a water fountain will greet residents before they enter the grand lobby, while a virtual concierge service will also be installed. The building also will have a resident manager.

Moda has 1,900 square feet of amenities in an air-conditioned fitness studio and yoga area, and indoor lounge with pool table.
