A man busted with four kilograms of heroin neatly packed in his suitcases while returning to Vancouver from India has been acquitted of two charges, even though the judge wasn’t buying his argument.
Chamkaur Singh Pandher was charged after his 2010 arrest when border security officers at Vancouver airport found heroin in his two suitcases in a secret compartment.
“When he was arrested, his first utterance was, ‘I don’t know what this is about,’” Justice Barry Davies said in his decision, posted by the courts Thursday.
The 34-year-old claimed someone he knew must have placed the perfectly packed heroin during a brief time he was away from the suitcases.
The judge added police didn’t consider the bust of another man found with heroin who said he was threatened with death by people Pandher knew.
