A 36-year-old snowmobiler from Saskatchewan has died after being buried in an avalanche near Blue River, B.C.

Clearwater RCMP received a report of buried snowmobilers at the back of Redsand Mountain shortly after 7 p.m. Friday.

A group of snowmobilers had been in the back bowl of the mountain when the avalanche occurred, burying two people. The group rushed to the location and immediately dug out one person. A second man was located, but died at the scene.

Clearwater search and rescue members were unable to enter the site that night due to the avalanche risk.

The RCMP has not released the name of the victim, but said he was from the town of Lloydminster.
