It was the interview heard around the province. Vancouver Canucks GM Mike Gillis on the Team 1040's morning show made it abundantly clear he's not a fan of the team’s current style of play.

"We will get back to those levels and that style of play that we started six years ago and we have the personnel to do it,” said Gillis.

I say they don't.

At least not to compete with monsters like Anaheim, St. Louis, L.A. and San Jose.

@CamBoychuk: Sedins too old. Kesler always broken. No goaltending and too many guys on NTCs. Team has passed "Best Before Date" #Canucks

I asked Canucks Nation a simple question: Should Gillis be given one last shot at turning this mess around?

@Justin_Raza: Hellz no! He's in job saving mode, just trying to shift focus to Torts and not himself ... look at his team now. #done

@DubiousRhino: Where's the depth? Good poss. teams can roll a 4th line against a 1st line. I don't trust Sestito to brush his own teeth.

So what changed?

Everything, once they brought the new coach in. When John Tortorella arrived the Canucks were still licking their wounds after being overmatched and humbled by the tougher and bigger Sharks.

The end-of-the-season battle cry became let’s get tougher and bigger and harder to play against. I know just the coach.

Whether it was the GM's call or the owners, nobody should be surprised at what they got.

@bill_stratton: Nice try, Mike, but it’s not all on Torts. Your last 3 years: back-to-back 1st round exits and a missed playoffs. See ya, pal.
