West Vancouver police say they are reviewing an incident between an officer and a longboarder.

A video posted by a user called Danny Carlson on YouTube showed some longboarders zooming down a hill in West Vancouver when, on a straight stretch, a police vehicle pulls halfway into the oncoming lane and hits his lights.

The longboarders then steer around the police truck and stop, but one of them loses control and slides about 20 feet on the street.

“You swerved in front of our lane and you made all of us crash,” said one middle-aged boarder to the officer after he got out of his truck.

“Our lane?” replied the officer. “It’s illegal to ride a longboard on here, I’m sick and tired of dealing with you, do you understand?”

The man told the officer he should be doing better things with his time.

West Van police referred to the video as “an interaction” and said it took place April 9.

“West Vancouver Police are aware of concerns being expressed via social media regarding the videotaped interaction between a WVPD officer and longboarders on Finch Hill Road in West Vancouver last week,” said the department in a release.

It said the incident is now under an internal review.

Longboarding on the sloped North Shore has been a headache for police officers, resulting in serious injuries.
