Hold vote on whales in captivity, says Vancouver councillor

A Vancouver city councillor up for re-election says she wants a plebiscite on keeping cetaceans in captivity at the aquarium added to the November ballot.
Adriane Carr said if the Vancouver Park Board and aquarium don’t come to an agreement to phase out cetaceans she wants the public to have a say.
“The intention is to bring more whales into the pool,” Carr said. “That’s the wrong way to go from the greenest city perspective.”
Carr said she doesn’t believe Vancouverites want whales and dolphins to be kept at the aquarium, but if the people were to vote to keep them she’ll accept it.
“So be it, then that’s the will of the people,” Carr said. “It wouldn’t make me happy, but I believe it won’t come out that way.”
