Time to get Canucks fans a new team to cheer for
With the Vancouver Canucks out, do you need a playoff team to cheer for? Look no further than the Montreal Canadiens. (REUTERS)
Here we are a week into the NHL playoffs and the sport of hockey has managed to survive and, dare I say, thrive without the participation of Vancouver Canucks.
But where does that leave you as a fan focused more on the draft than you are on the quality of hockey being played right now?
Life apparently does go on and life is exactly what the NHL first round is injected with. Especially now thanks to divisional realignment.
Just look at these matchups:
- Chicago/St. Louis
- New York/Philadelphia
- Los Angeles/San Jose
They all have that shiny, new Conference Finals feel to them.
We need to get you a new team. Remember now, it's like a forgotten password so it's just temporary. You WILL get your original team back.
No Canadian team has won the cup since 1993. So can I interest you in a group of athletes affectionately known as "Canada's only team?"
The Montreal Canadiens.
They are just one win away from heading to the second round, where they could meet the universally hated Boston Bruins.
On paper the Bruins should crush this matchup. The scoreboard tells a completely different tale. Over the last 12 games the Habs have lost just four times.
I'm old enough to remember how massive the hate was between these two teams and their fan bases.
Habs/Bruins in the second round would be hockey's version of the Red Sox/Yankees.
Everyone wins if this occurs.
