Woman defrauded couples by pretending to carry their babies: Report
A British woman has been found guilty of defrauding two couples, saying she would be a surrogate mother for them, then faking a pregnancy and miscarriage, but still taking their money.
Louise Pollard, 28, of Plymouth, was caught after one of the couples became suspicious and called police, the Plymouth Herald reported.
She pleaded guilty to three charges of fraud and will be sentenced next week.
In 2010, Pollard claimed she was carrying the grandson of Osama Bin Laden after his son, Omar, and his British-born wife, Jane Felix Browne, had trouble conceiving. But Pollard later said she miscarried that baby.
In an interview with the U.K. Sun, Pollard's brother, Shaun McLoughlin, said he didn't understand his sister's actions.
"The parents pinned all their hopes on her. They had to go through the agony of believing they were going to have a child and then that the baby had died. Who would do that to another human being?" he said.
