Six dogs widely reported as being stolen actually died in the back of a dog walker’s van, according to Petsearchers Canada.

According to the organization, the woman in charge of the dogs admitted to them she left all six canines in the back of the wagon where they all perished due to heatstroke.

The dog walker had said they were stolen, sparking a massive search.

But the dog walker later admitted the dogs — now being called the Brookswood 6 — were left in the truck with the windows down and water available when she left them on May 13, said a statement on the Petsearchers website.

“Upon arriving at the location and (the dog walker) seeing her beloved charges deceased, she went into a blind panic at the thought of notifying the families and the possible repercussions,” said the statement. “In a complete state of shock and panic, (she) made a desperate attempt to cover up what had happened and concocted a story to explain the loss of the dogs.”

As of Monday evening, Petseachers said that the dog walker was on her way to talk to RCMP.
