Up to 20 million honeybees took over a Newark, Del., highway after a transport truck carrying their hives crashed.
The crash happened Tuesday, as the truck was moving 460 hives from Florida to Maine, DelawareOnline.com reported.
The driver had minor arm injuries after the crash. But Sgt. Paul G. Shavack told the website it took several hours for police to be able to get close to him in the truck because of all the bees swarming around it. Firefighters were brought in to hose down the bees to try to disperse them. It took until nightfall.
Bee salvagers were called in and were authorized to remove and keep what they could of the remaining hives.
