A 21-year-old B.C. man has been charged with manslaughter after an infant died on the weekend.

Victoria police were called to a restaurant — reportedly a McDonald's — at 8 a.m. Saturday. The caller said an infant wasn't breathing.

Police said attempts to save the baby were unsuccessful.

Police called the infant's death suspicious.

A 21-year-old man had travelled with the infant on a bus from nearby Esquimalt, police said.

The man has been charged with manslaughter.

Vancouver police have been called in to help investigate. Police didn't identify the man or the infant. They also didn't say how or if the man knew the child.

Police are looking for any witnesses who may have been riding a B.C. Transit double-decker bus on route 14 between 7:30 a.m. and 8 a.m. Saturday.
