Most in B.C. believe in gas conspiracy: poll

By Michael Mui, 24 Hours Vancouver

The vast majority of motorists believe there’s some sort of plan from gas stations to hike prices on long weekends, according to a new poll that also found most are driving less frequently because of sky-high prices.

The Insights West poll released Tuesday said 91% believe they are getting taken advantage of on long weekends.

About 68% said price increases are causing financial hardship at home.

Insights West vice-president Mario Canseco said in a statement things are particularly tough for those 18-34, since that demographic is “already walking and taking public transit more often than usual to save some money.”

Insights West surveyed 801 people between May 9 and 11. The poll has a margin of error of plus-or-minus 3.4%.
