Police shot and arrested a suspected gunman after an officer and woman were shot in downtown Vancouver.

Three people have been shot and Vancouver police have reportedly taken a man into custody at the entrance to a museum full of parents and children in the city’s downtown.

The VPD said a man, a police officer and a suspect were all injured by gunfire in an incident that unfolded at a coffee shop in Yaletown.

According to the VPD the woman was the first shot at a coffee shop in Yaletown around 11:00 a.m. and the suspected shooter was pursued by police to the entrance of Science World in the False Creek neighbourhood.

There, police said, he exchanged gunfire with police and hit one of the officers.

Visitors to Science World have been asked to stay inside the museum as police investigate but one woman told media by phone they were told to “hit the deck” before the shooting began.

The man initially shot has been taken to hospital in serious condition, there is no update on the condition of the suspect or officer.

Vancouver police said they will release more information as it become available.
