Inmate's lawyer brings "dynamite" to New West police
A New Westminster police investigation into an inmate suspected of having access to dynamite turned into a scare for officers at the force's main detachment last month.
According to a police statement, after the investigation began, the inmate wanted to turn in the dynamite in exchange for a dismissal of charges.
“Against the direction of the police, the inmate’s lawyer transported what she thought was dynamite to the front counter of the New Westminster Police station,” the statement said.
The incident took place May 20.
Police said the apparent dynamite — classified as a “firework” — was actually an explosive device used in construction to break rock.
