NHL 2014 Playoffs a treat to watch
Whether you had a horse in the race or not, the 2014 NHL Playoffs were an absolute treat to watch. Arguably the best post season I've ever seen.
It's a great time to be a fan of the NHL.
Hell, even Gary Bettman made it out of Los Angeles without getting booed. Who saw that happening?
Hockey looks extremely healthy right now.
Unfortunately over the past few seasons the Vancouver Canucks have been anything but the picture of health and have fallen back into the mediocre crowd.
Look no further than Las Vegas for proof. The odds for the 2015 Stanley Cup were released this week and the Canucks were offered to the betting public at a whopping 55-1. Also sharing those odds, Edmonton and Toronto.
It should be interesting to see how the Canucks brass sell this team if they, as I expect, miss the playoffs again.
The competition for those final few spots has never been this intense. It doesn't help that there are teams on the playoff bubble that are on the upswing. This just isn't the case here in Vancouver.
If the Canucks go into the season with the goaltending they ended with then that tells me the silent rebuild is already on and that this team has suddenly become a player in next year’s Conner McDavid sweepstakes.
Remember his Hockey News cover? "Better Than Crosby." That remains to be seen, but he is the type of player that could change the fortunes of a franchise much like 87 did in Pittsburgh.
He may be well worth "accidentally" tanking for.
